Safety Alert: Closing of Old Carolina / Jefferson St. Overpass
Parents and Guardians,
 
We have been informed the closing of the Old Carolina/Jefferson Street overpass could pose a danger to student safety.  Students who previously used this route are asked not to use Route 15 as an alternate route.  Please urge your student to stay safe and avoid Route 15 while walking or biking.

Local merchants helping seniors to raise money
Greetings from the Class of 2015! Seniors are working with local merchants to raise money to reduce the cost of the spring trip--and providing us all with an opportunity to enjoy a tasty treat at the same time! Here are your opportunities in October and early November:
De`ja Brew Coffee House: Thursday, October 2nd--10% of the proceeds goes to the Class of 2015--present flyer at time of purchase;
Smashburger: Monday, October 13th--$1 for every entree ordered goes to the Class of 2015--present flyer at time of purchase.
KuleYo's: Friday, November 7th--20% of proceeds from 2PM to midnight goes to the Class of 2015--present flyer or mention the Senior Class at time of purchase.
Senior Trip - Forms Due Thursday, October 2nd
The Class of 2015 will be traveling to Liberty Bell Center in Philadelphia, PA on Wednesday, October 15th. The cost of a seat on the chartered bus provided by Mt. Vernon Travel is $35. Students will need additional funds to cover the cost of meals. Please complete the permission slip and submit it, along with payment, to the Main Office no later than 3PM on Thursday, October 2nd
 
Friday, Oct. 3 - Open an Apple FCU Account and WIN FREE STUFF
On Friday, Oct. 3rd the Bobcats Branch will host a Spin-to-Win Prize Wheel. Students and Staff interested in opening up an Apple Credit Union account will get a chance to walk away with goodies, in addition to the potential to grow their savings. Click here for more information.
The Robotics team is now accepting applications - Deadline Oct. 4th
The Robotics Team is now accepting applications for new members. The acceptance process will run until 4-Oct-2014. Please see http://iliterobotics.org/apply/​ for information, student handbook, open positions, and application process. 
Lockheed Martin Women in Engineering Day (for sophomores) – Due Oct. 8th
Lockheed Martin will host their 11th Annual Women in Engineering Day on Friday, November 14th ,for sophomore women who are interested in investigating the world or engineering and the variety of career paths it can offer.  The event will be all day, from 7:20-4:00, and sessions are planned to include:  team projects, panel discussions, career fair booths and tours of the facility.   If you are interested in the Women in Engineering Day, please send an email to Mr. Huddle huddlejc@pwcs.edu by October 8th, stating why you would like to attend.  Unfortunately, space is limited, so Battlefield will only be able to send five students.  Please note that for security reasons, all attendees must have U.S. citizenship.
 
BAE Systems Women in Technology Program (for juniors and seniors) - Due Oct. 8th
BAE Systems is hosting their Women in Technology program, for junior and senior ladies, to provide a hands-on opportunity to explore careers in various technical disciplines.  The technical modules will include:  electrical, soldering, packaging, failure analysis, mechanical and Lego Mindstorms. If you would like to apply for the Women in Technology Program, please give your application to Mr. Huddle by October 8th (room 1012).  The program is limited so Battlefield will have a maximum of three participants.  Please note that for security reasons, all attendees must have U.S. citizenship or an I-511 green card.  WIT Application, Program Overview, Schedule
Catholic College Fair - Oct 8
The Knights of Columbus of Northern Virginia are hosting a Catholic College Fair on Wednesday, October 8th at 7:00pm at Holy Spirit Catholic Church. More than 30 Catholic colleges and universities from around the country will have representatives at the even to provide information about their schools.
Homecoming Dance - "Sweet Dreams"
Tickets are on sale NOW!!!! Order forms available in the Main Office and on the SCA’s fusion page. Forms for BHS students and BHS students bringing non-BHS guests are available. Those bringing a guest must have the form completed and back to their administrators by Oct 9, so they may order their tickets by the Oct 14 deadline. Those tickets cannot be ordered without ALL of the required signatures.

A new feature this year will be a photo booth from Victor O’Neil studios, a complementary coupon for one session will be included in the ticket price. Also, refreshments this year will feature a super sweet chocolate fountain and cotton candy! Truly Sweet Dreams!​

Parents of seniors! Senior ad prices go up October 1st! Be sure to purchase your ads, and save money!! You can purchase and create online at http://www.yearbookordercenter.com school 13078 or fill out the form attached.
 
Attention! Save $15 on your yearbook by purchasing by October 1st. Prices are only $70 and will go up starting October 1. Books can be ordered online at http://www.yearbookordercenter.com or drop off the form in the front office.
"Touch Base" Event - Oct. 13
Parents are invited to attend the Battlefield HS "Touch Base" event on Monday, October 13th, from 8:00am-10:00am to meet individually with any or all of their student's teachers for a brief 3-5 minute conference.  No appointments are necessary.  
PSAT: Oct 15
The PSAT will be administered free of charge to all 10th and 11th grade students at Battlefield High School on Wednesday, October 15th. All Battlefield 9th grade students will take a practice PSAT test on October 15th and all seniors will be involved in senior activities and programming while testing is underway. Read more about PSAT day here.

PWCS Fall College Fair: Oct 22
PWCS, in conjunction with the Virginia Association of College Registrars and Admissions Officers (VACRAO), will host one more college fair for high school students and families during the 2014-15 school year on Wednesday, October 22nd at Woodbridge High School, 6:00-8:00pm.  Seniors, juniors, and their parents are welcomed to attend!
Youth Salute: Application Deadline Oct 24
The National Council on Youth Leadership commends young men and women who have demonstrated their desire to promote a culture of excellence through leadership roles in their community. Current juniors (Class of 2016) with a 3.0+ GPA and leadership experience can apply now! Interested students should access the application on the junior class Fusion page and submit their completed nomination form and resume (using REQUIRED template) to Mrs. Bridges in the Counseling Center no later than 2:30pm on Friday, October 24, 2104.

PWCS Sports Concussion Education Training
9th grade students, and students NEW to PWCS must attend Face-to-Face concussion training.  Sessions are available at all PWCS High Schools throughout the 2014-15 school year.  View the current schedule or visit the PWCS Health and Physical Education website for updated information and make plans to attend one of these sessions. 

Parents/guardians and students who have already attended a face-to-face training may take this year's mandatory concussion training online. Start the online training.

All athletes must have a current physical on file for each school year, dated after May 1st of the current year through June 30 of the succeeding year.
