Girls and Boys State
Annually American Legion Post 1799 sponsors Battlefield High School students for Girls and Boys State.  Selection for high school juniors is based on:  academics, leadership, character, and service to the community.  Both programs run June 15-21, 2014 with Boys State at Radford University and Girls at Longwood University.  American Legion Boys State and American Legion Auxiliary Girls State are the premier programs for teaching how government works while developing leadership skills and an appreciation for your rights as a citizen.  In their own words, some of the participants share their experiences click here:

Battlefield students attending were:  Emma Boyd, Maggie Gough, Lauren Reheuser, Hyejune Limb, Sofia McDaniel, Elizabeth Maureen Finnan, Robert Drummond, Matt Tschida, and Drew Wagner.
Join the Debate Team- Great College Preparation!
Did you know that students who participate in debate are more likely to gain acceptance at elite colleges than similarly qualified students who have never debated?
The Battlefield HS Debate team will be holding an interest meeting on Tuesday Sept. 9 at 2:10 in the library.  Team captains will give a presentation explaining the difference between Policy debate and Lincoln-Douglas debate. Follow-up lessons on how to debate will begin the following week, so this meeting will allow you to determine which subsequent sessions to attend.  See the tentative debate schedule for more details.

Stop Summer Reading Loss-Participate in Summer Reading Programs!
Research studies show that students who read over the summer maintain or increase their literacy while those who do not read over the summer significantly regress and return to school in the Fall less prepared than when they left.  Fortunately, there are three summer reading programs available to BHS students:
The extra-credit PWCS voluntary summer reading program for all students,

the Pre-AP and AP summer reading/assignments, and the

Prince William Public Library summer reading program.  Summer reading is a great way to do something enjoyable while ensuring academic success for the coming year!
PWCS Sports Concussion Education Training
9th grade students, and students NEW to PWCS must attend Face-to-Face concussion training.  Sessions are available at all PWCS High Schools throughout the 2014-15 school year.  View the current schedule or visit the PWCS Health and Physical Education website for updated information and make plans to attend one of these sessions.

Parents/guardians and students who have already attended a face-to-face training may take this year's mandatory concussion training online. Start the online training.

All athletes must have a current physical on file for each school year, dated after May 1st of the current year through June 30 of the succeeding year.
